In conversation with Moonolger and Astrologer, Yasmin Boland

in Jun 29, 2021

Earlier this year we were lucky enough to host a Flower Supermoon ritual for our brand friends, lead by the fantastic Yasmin Boland - an acclaimed Moonologer, Astrologer and author. We asked her some a little more about her story...

  1. We’re obsessed with cosmic rituals and practices, so are big fans of yours. How did you get into Astrology and the moon?

Working with the Moon crept up on me, but actually it's also hard-coded into my own astrology chart. I have the Moon conjunct my MC (the MC is basically your Career Line and conjunct means in the same place as or on top of).

In a nutshell, I was always quite a cosmic kid and interested in the mystical. I also loved to write. I left University and became a journalist and then a TV producer. In my 20s, I was introduced to astrology and basically became obsessed with it overnight. I was freelance writing at the time and basically spent about 3-4 hours a day studying astrology until it had taken over my life. I was thinking I had to let it go because I was doing so much astrology that I was barely doing any work – then a cosmic event made me realise that I should not just pursue my interest but take it further. So I did.

From astrology in general, I ended up focusing on the Moon because I was fascinated about the way women have worked with the Moon for millennia, also because of my many visits to India where the Moon is celebrated, and also because the Moon and the Goddess go hand in hand and I am Goddess-centric. Eventually I ditched fulltime journalism for what I do now.

  1. If there is such thing, what does a normal working day look like for you?

I usually wake up at sunrise, make a coffee and start work before the rest of my family is awake. I often write a column before breakfast. It's also a good time to talk to the people on my team, who are all over the world. We do the school run then most weekday mornings I do a Facebook and/or IG live about the astrology and moonology of the day plus I draw a card for people. Then I usually write another column or work on any events I am putting together (I do monthly New and Full Moon events online). At around 1pm, my husband and I sit down for lunch (we work together but he's also the chef in our household). In the afternoon I tend to work on publishing projects, be it a book or diary or oracle cards. Throw in hundreds of emails and regular Zooms and that about sums my work day up!

  1. What has been the most exciting moment since launching Moonology? We know you have coined the term Moonology… how cool!

On a human level, it's when I get emails from people who say "Omg, I did what you said and even my most outrageous wishes have come true!" or "Thank you for helping me turn by life around by introducing me to Moonology!" It's amazing to know that what I do for work helps people like that. On a strictly professional level, I would say it was learning that my Moonology oracle cards are currently the best-selling oracle cards on the planet. That was completely mind-blowing! And also being featured in UK, USA and French Vogue last year and on Oprah's websites (twice!) this year.

  1. What is astrology telling us at the moment. What is 2021 going to look like for us?

You probably don't need me to tell you that 2021 is not as easy as we would have liked it to be. There was a moment at the end of 2020, when I was being commissioned to write year ahead magazine features about the astrology of 2021. After 2020, everyone was telling me how they wanted good news about the stars this year. However, the stars this year are actually even more challenging than last year, at least on some levels.

So this year is about making the changes in our lives that we know we absolutely have to. It's about breaking free from anything that makes us feel held back, and of course it's about all wanting to be free from the ongoing restrictions associated with the pandemic.

The good news is that even though the pandemic will still be humming along in the background in 2022, the overall mood is going to be much, much better. I think the pandemic will become a fading memory by 2023.

  1. When do you feel most empowered?

Every morning, I sit on the edge of my bed, throw my arms up towards the sky, thank the heavens for all the good in my life and dedicate my day to the Divine. I do feel pretty empowered in that moment!

  1. Do you have a mantra or quote that you like to live by?

"The secret is to know you are blessed and to live your life within that knowing." It's from my spiritual teacher in India, Sri Sakthi Amma Narayani.

  1. Do you have an earliest scent memory?

I would say it's the smell of coconut Reef Suntan Oil from my teens, growing up in Tasmania, Australia…

  1. We’re passionate about flowers – do you have a favourite?

I LOVE peonies, roses and daisies.

  1. Which is your favourite Sana Jardin scent?

Honestly, they are all amazing. But I especially love the Incense Water you gave me and the Celestial Patchouli and Savage Jasmine from the sampler – but they are all amazing. I am not a fan of the old-fashioned perfume which is bad for us, so finding your scents has been a revelation. Can you please do some bath products and skin creams as well, so we can layer? 😊
